Responsibilities
CERVIE
  • To lead the strategic development of the Centre.
  • To set targets, deliver success in Key Result Areas and achieve agreed upon KPIs to demonstrate UCSI University’s excellence and pre-eminence in this field.
  • To liaise with external stakeholders nationally and internationally to promote the work of the centre in innovation partnerships and networks.
  • To create and capitalise on opportunities for contract research and collaborative research degrees.
  • To deploy research and innovation budgets to maximise value added and optimise additional funding from clients to build the innovation and entrepreneurship portfolio.
  • To Plan, Organise, Lead and to Exceute (POLE) an overall operation of CERVIE and to align the department with UCSI’s vision and mission to be the university par excellence in education.
  • To oversee the operation of CERVIE and the overall responsibility of all units within CERVIE.
  • To source for external grants and spearhead research activities in the University.
  • To work closely with the Faculties’ Deans and Associate Deans on matters that relate to respective faculty staff’s research publications.
  • To propose and to present working papers to the Senate related to research budget requested and activities within UCSI.
  • To organise and promote a research environment within UCSI University and to promote UCSI University’s research activities nationally and internationally.
  • To be involved in professional activities such as seminars, workshops, conferences, technical editing internally and externally.

To manage the development of:

  • Staff research and inquiries across faculties, institutes and centres.
  • Collaborative innovation through partnership with industry.
  • Contract consultancy.
  • Knowledge creation, transfer and exchange.
  • Intellectual property rights.
  • Publication and dissemination.
  • Academic and professional networking.
  • Entrepreneurship and enterprise for staff and students.
  • Social enterprise and service to our communities.

Leading the Development, Improvement, Implementation and Monitoring of R&D Policy and Guidelines

  • To review or develop the Research and Development Policy and Guidelines, Human and Medical Ethics Guidelines, the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes Guidelines and the Institutional Biosafety Guidelines.
  • To benchmark against external R&D policies for improvement and monitoring.
  • To periodically review and revise all Policies and Guidelines to ensure they are up to date.
  • To organise, coordinate and manage research training for researchers and students.
  • To evaluate and ensure the achievement of research, innovation and commercialisation of research outcomes.

Manage and monitor the Research Grants

  • To be responsible in the research grant applications i.e. UCSI University Pioneer Science Incentive Funds (PSIF), Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS), Prototype Research Grant Scheme (PRGS), Long Term Research Grant Scheme (LRGS), eScienceFund, MESTECC grants and other national and international grants.
  • To play a significant role in long term planning of increasing grant applications and the success rate.
  • To develop plans and schedules for all grants especially grant opening schedules and timeframes.
  • To closely monitor grant applications and processes, to be compliant with the funding agencies’ requirements.
  • To master the government grant application portal i.e. the MyGRANTS portal in ensuring all grant applications are running smoothly.
  • To source for the list of available external reviewers in supporting the grant review process.
  • To ensure that the on-going research grants are on track by compiling the projects progress reports periodically.
  • To prepare reports for overall research projects performance (comparing proposed outcomes and actual outcomes).

Planning and Tracking of CERVIE Budget and Expenditure

  • To plan and prepare the CERVIE Budget, according to the aspiration of the University in its Strategic Planning
  • To keep track of the departmental expenditure (operational and developmental expenditure).
  • To keep track and monitor the fund disbursement to ensure the expenditure of on-going research projects are closely monitored within budget allocation.

 

OPS
  • You will oversee the entire operation of postgraduate programmes, academically and administratively.
  • You will collaborate with the Dean to achieve academic and operational goals.
  • You will collaborate with other entities within UCSI to foster a vibrant and productive university environment.
  • You will recommend staff development (upgrading, recruiting, terminating, etc.) to the Dean.
  • You will prepare annual budget for the Programmes.
  • You will assist in product development or new linkages.
  • You will assist the Dean in marketing and PR activities/ strategies.
  • You will give guidance and leadership to the staff under your supervision.
  • You will perform any relevant duties which may be given to you by your supervisor from time to time.


Requirements
  • Related Academic and Research Qualifications.
  • Minimum five years of research experience.
  • Excellent research management skills.
  • Pro-active and self motivated, with the ability to work independently as well as participate within the team.
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, possess a mature attitude and a good team player.
  • Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills and abilities.
