概述
世界卫生组织把“健康” 定义为 "完整的生理、心理和社会福祉，而不仅是没有疾病或不虚弱的状态。"
为了实现这一目标，营养的摄入起着关键的作用。营养学是研究身体如何利用食品中的营养素，以及营养与饮食、健康和疾病之间的关系。简而言之，它会检测出人体是如何回应食入的食物。
营养学也对疾病起到一定的预防作用，它专注于研究如何透过健康饮食及生活方式的改变，预防或减少与健康有关的状况和问题。营养学也涉及鉴定饮食因素如何引起某些健康状况或问题，如不良饮食（营养不均）、食物过敏、代谢性疾病等。
为了达到更全面的营养科学及保健学教育效果，这门课程还囊括了营养及保健、创业和营销相关课程的核心内容， 让毕业生拥有多项技能，在职场上占有优势。 这也开拓了毕业生更广阔的就业机会，得以在私人领域执业，胜任保健与营养顾问或企业家的工作。

毕业后的学生可以从事以下领域的职业：
- 健康和营养顾问 – 为那些已完成健康风险测试的客户提供卫生保健和营养的教育培训。
- 营养学教育工作者/辅导员 – 帮助制定计划以教育特定人口群体有关营养、健康状况和整体健康的做法。
- 顾问/私人诊所 – 辅导消费者对特定事宜，如改变生活方式、健康饮食和食物选择、体重管理、健身、营养、预防和健康相关事宜的教育辅导工作。
