Steadfast like a Samurai

Onn San

Renowned composer, Onn San, is an alumnus of the UCSI Institute of Music. Upon graduating with a Bachelor of Classical Music (Hons), Onn San went on to become the first Malaysian to obtain a Master’s in Musical Theater from the prestigious New York University’s Tisch School of The Arts. He has composed for numerous movies, with the latest being ‘Ola Bola’. His musical theater credits include writing the score for The Secret Life of Nora starring Datin Seri Tiara Jacquelina. 

The UCSI University Chorale

UCSI’s 120-strong chorale is the first university student choir to perform with the acclaimed Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO). It consists of a combination of the University’s premier chamber and concert choirs. 

The UCSI University Chorale was selected to performGustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, widely known as the Resurrection Symphony, with the MPO and world-renowned conductor Benjamin Zander. 

Maxy Chan Mei Xuan

UCSI University student Maxy Chan Mei Xuan from the Institute of Music made history when she became the first Malaysian pianist to win gold in the prestigious Asia Piano Competition (APC) in the year 2013 in Taiwan. 

Performing a piece titled, ‘The Tom and Jerry Show’ by jazz composer Hiromi Uehara, the Music student edged out some of Asia’s upcoming pianists to bag the top award in the Asian Works (Young Adults) category.
